Promotional Umbrellas - A Wide Advertising Canvas

Today golf umbrellas are the most popular amongst promotional umbrellas. They are bigger than traditional walking umbrella, which is one of the major reasons why they are popular than their traditional counterparts. These umbrellas have an arc of about 50-68 inches with the canopy being divided into eight panels.

With such a large surface area, what should be printed on these promotional umbrellas? A lot of thought and planning should go into this decision.

Each and every part of the canopy can further your company’s image. The colours can be those of the company or the logo of the company or the colours that are used by your company in each external communication. Once the colours have been decided, the next decision is the text.

You can decide from the following examples:

  1. The name of the company: Get the name of your company printed on one of the panels. It should look exactly the same, in font, size and colour, as it does in your TV, print or Internet ads.
  2. The logo: This should be placed next to the name of the company. Sometimes if you want to reinforce brand retention through your logo, you may choose to only print the company’s logo on the surface of the promotional umbrella.
  3. Slogan: If your company’s slogan or advertising message is short, witty and catchy you may choose to have it printed on the umbrella.
  4. Address / website: Though contact information of some kind will be helpful, in today’s Internet age, a potential client needs only the name of a company or its product to find out more.

If your company is thinking of putting all the above information on the umbrella, you need t be aware that “more is not more,” but “less is more”. Putting all the above information on the umbrella will only create a cluttered look and the entire purpose of this promotional item, which is to deliver your company’s advertising message in a crisp and effective manner, will be lost. Ideally what would work from the point of view of brand retention is just getting the name or the logo of the company printed on the promotional umbrella.
